I have been mucking about with wordpress themes for a little while know; however I am not a very good coder (mainly because I am very lazy and the codex is long!).
So when I am experimenting I usually grab an existing theme and gut it and mould it.
Recently though I found wp-skeleton well I will just give you the blurb!
WP Skeleton is a theme package created for designers to make the process of coding wordpress themes easier. This package includes 12 different widget ready layouts, which is coded in Valid CSS and Valid HTML. The layouts are really easy to edit and there is no spamy links required to be kept inside the footer. All you as a designer have to do is to design your site in photoshop and then overwrite the images in the theme package, and your theme is ready to be sold! Magic isn’t it?!
So I grabbed this and cracked open photoshop and built a rough theme. I then spliced the theme into the ‘skeleton’ and added a few tweaks via the functions.php file and voila! A brand new theme in 40 mins flat.
The package it self contains 12 different layouts as shown below giving you the versatility in your psd design options.
The great thing about wp-skeleton is that it can be easily adapted moulded and make unique designs with very little work.
The only ‘down’ side is that it costs $50; though considering you can create your own themes and possible sell them on. That amount can be made back with ease.
If you instead use it as a link building or traffic building source…it could be priceless.
I will be releasing the themes that I made with this as soon as I have polished them, though I can say…it IS worth the small price of $50.

Yes the price is very nice; the only negative side is that if your coding knowledge is limited you are restricted to those 12 layouts, however…there 12 of them giving you enough scope to mash them together or to learn from them.
I think that at first, I shall upgrade to 2.7.1 and then go for this.

yep all you really need know is decent PhotoShop skills and minor coding skills! I truly am amazed how much easier this makes it.
Also take a look at some free alternatives such as ‘sandbox’ theme etc. I will find you some links…I have them somewhere!
I was looking for something to effeciently get me into the “theme flipping” side of business and this might just do it…thanx!
