Update – Links – Love – 2

Posted on December 13th, 2008 by Donace in For Shame and Fame, Misc

Since writing the first Update – Links – Love and it getting a good reaction I thought lets make it a weekly occurrence :p so my normal posts haven been ported to Wednesdays and update posts on a Saturday.

News

The University Kid’s auction over at sitepoint didn’t seem to be going well so in an attempt to hit the bigger pockets the site has been relisted over at the premium section and has hit a $5000 bid. Though if YOU want to earn another $150-$300 a month writing for the blog check out this post.

The linkers blog has started to move and has hit $750, with a monthly income of $250 that is waaaay to low for it to go, though with over a week remaining it has yet to be seen how it goes.

Another blog that came and sold within 11 hours was Sly’s with a monthly income of $400 its BIN price of $9,500 was snapped up very quickly, a very good price for Sly.

Though Since then I did spot the following message:

Update Links Love 2 | sly comment

Though Sly has not stated that the deal has broken, so we can assume all is well and congratulations on the sale.

The next auction hit me a bit, Rule The Seas, a game which I have talked about before is up for grabs with a starting bid of $500,000 and Bin of $2million, it truely is a expensive auction. Though with a $70,000 monthly profit figure it seems like a decent price.

One other piece that caught my eye was this, Google Audio Indexing, what this in essence will do is enable google to search videos for certain keywords, and then index them.

The test site linked shows how it would work with the US election speeches..and it looks very cool. For marketers and video bloggers this is great news. As well as for spammers who can now make 30min long videos saying ‘buy viagra’. Or as Glowleaf puts it we’ll be seeing a lot of addvertisments with transcripts such as:

“Hello aunt Viagra”
“Oh, hi there little Dick”
“What are you making aunt Viagra?”
“A Cialis syrup dear, for the Aunt Viagra’s ice cream™. Your cousin Levitra will be coming in soon”

The most vital part being the no-index and no-follow at the top as we don’t want these to be indexed! as well multiple methods of redirecting the user if for some bizarre reason one of them fails the other will kick in.

Though if you don’t want to or don’t like to play around with code head over to NSpeaks for a chance to win Ninja affiliate plugin that helps ‘automate’ the whole process and then some.

For the more ‘dubious’ or ‘black hatter’s’ about, or just people who like me just want to experiment and speculate have a quick read of ‘want a cookie?‘ that discusses (theoretical) ways to drop cookies, and how to mask the traffic from such ventures (see the comments for it).

Though a small update on the last bit I did find this cool wordpress plugin that cuts the hassle of masking traffic sources and browser referers and the such for CPA offers, and does it all automagicaly for you. ( Some Info to avoid detection, Example use , Support thread.) Though here like I said in ‘Want a cookie?‘ this is all theoretical or for experimentation only and I do not support nor condone blackhat methods and hold no responsibility for the code offered or plugin linked, nor any ramifications of using such methods.

Going back to NSpeaks he has also written a nice post on about utilising your 404 to its full potential. I suggest you to also have a look at Rick’s article which gives a lot of useful code that you can use to further optimise the page to keep visitors on your site. Though if you are like me and a tad bit lazy also check out AskApche’s 404 plugin this with a small tweak will help your 404 a lot :p

Speaking of monetisation and optimisation Matt over at ‘theovernightsite‘ recently started a ‘case study’ focusing on him attempting to make $100 in December using adsense. With him now earning over $1 a day the target looks like it will be reached. To keep an eye on his case study and how he is optimising the site for maximum traffic and revenue keep an eye on his blog.

Now the site he is focusing on is a niche, and as with the standard flow, niches can be very lucrative.
One way to improve your niches exposure and income is to get links to it from similar sites in the niche and social media that focuses on that niche. Of which a HUGE list is available here.

Problems may occur with your niche site though if you content get scraped or generally you have a fair bit of bad links pointing to your site. Well SEOmoz got right down it and answered the question.

SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday – Can Bad Links Hurt Me? from Scott Willoughby on Vimeo.

Staying with Seomoz, Links and SEO check out their new toolbar for firefox, helping you optimise your SEO efforts.

On the other side of the fence however Mark from Digerati Marketing in his great post for this quarter :D says:

It is possible to damage the rankings of other websites with incoming links

What he goes on to say is while bad links cannot hurt you, irrelevant links (in mass spammy quantity) can effect the SERP rankings of site. Check out his post on Optimum Link Growth when you have a few minutes to read it and mull it over.

Now if you are already making money and just want to improve then head over to Robin’s site; who has compiled the top 100 blogs that help you make make money online and optimise it.

Speaking of making money if you have a quick look around you will see ‘Adgitize’ banners around.
This company started about a month ago and in a nutshell think entrecard except it pays you!

Your earnings are determined by your involvement in the network community. The more page views you have the more you earn. The more Ads you display the more you earn. The more blog articles you write the more you earn. The more blogs in the Adgitize Members Network you visit the more you earn

So on the face of it, it seem very promising, you can accumulate points by clicking ads (as EC drops except limited to 100 per day), you get points for publishing articles and even page views! and as seen by the screenshot (take on the 11th Nov) they are not very hard to accumulate.

Adgitize

At the end of the month these points are converted into cold hard cash paid out to paypal (min $10) or cheque (min $50).

Alternatively you can do as in entrecard and advertise on other sites in the network to drive traffic.

The only downside is it utilises iframes and their 125×125 ads (they also have 468×60) over flow a bit. Though as its only a month old I sense a lot of improvements coming.

I would suggest you test out Adgitize and see how you like it, the idea has loads of potential and with the ‘deal breakers’ noted from entrecard, Adgitize will be what entrecard should have been.

This cannot be a true update post without mentioning the latest Wordpress and all its glitter, but as this post comes on a Saturday, days after the official release (Thursday), I’ll just link you to one of the posts on Blogging Tips, this showcases the new features and has links to other posts on how to fully utilise the brand new features.

And so ending on a quirky site and an update;

Firstly I would like to say that the top commenter on The Nexus for each month will also get a free 125×125 for the following month! So feel free to browse comment, question and remark!

The quirky site for this week is all about The Simpson’s, we all love them don’t deny it! Well here is an interactive map of Springfield! Have fun exploring :p

EDIT after I completed my round up editing on Friday night I came across this great post about an easter egg in wordpress 2.6 and 2.7 and HAD to share it…so go check out the Vid over at Kim’s Site.

And Have a Great Week!

No problem it was a good article ;)
and yes Sly’s auction was quick, I would not have known about it if I wasn’t updating this post in regards of TUK and not stumbled across it. Though he did get a good price and hopefully his site will remain to churn out good content like he has done before.

Wow, this is by far the biggest link love I’ve ever came across so far. I have a hard time to keep up with all the links…. lol. I really like the way you link out to those articles which is not usually the common practice. Good job indeed.

                        Yan

Cheers man, It’s long mainly because well a) a lot of good sites b) there were some good posts this week.

Regards the linking out I wrote it as I would find it useful, I.e. different posts on topic and then it flowing to the next related topic, and hopefully a better anchor text then the normal link love posts!

As in this I started with Affiliate cloaking, moved to other methods and stratagems related to it, and moved through to the adsense challenge, considered how it good be improved (SEO) and negatives you have to watch out for (bad links posts) and then to adgitize the new program I stumbled across, which seems to be working well since Saturday Morning when I added the ‘adds’ it has made me until now an estimated $1.00, you may say not a lot but in just over a day with me not doing all the things possible to rack up points Adgitize has made a decent amount, and if it keeps it up that’s a $30 boost every month.

So those of you still reading this post and deciding, or sitting on the fence…JUMP at this chance and join Adgitize as it really is easy autopilot money.
