SEO Challenge ‘09

Posted on January 3rd, 2009 by Donace in Misc

A new year has started and this blog has hit 7 months of age!

With this in mind despite my huge workload I have decided to join Dollar$howers SEO Challenge ‘09. I am not going to rehash the prizes, the contest details and the such; as it deserves a ‘click through’ to his site for maximum benefit and clarification of the contest.

The bottom line though is the person with the maximum % increase of search engine traffic at the end of the six week period wins.

My strategy

I have recently been trying to build my SEO knowledge and have been learning and accumulating quite a bit. However with my recent tweaking of the site I feel I have done as much as I can to improve on site ‘default’ SEO without actually editing the older posts. So increasing my Search engine traffic from an average of 77 hits per day will indeed be a challenge.

In regards to my older posts as I do not wish to edit the posts themselves I will be concentrating on building links to the posts via social media. A medium I have not really used.

He who think SEO is just linkbuilding though is gravely mistaken. So for my newer planned posts I shall be aiming to maximise the  main ‘keywords’ so to maximise traffic from search engines. As I have 8  ‘draft posts’ pending I think sticking to my weekly schedule I shall be able to do this with ease. (this would mean I will not be diverting from my normal posts to cash in on the quick tricks of gaining SE’ Traffic).

Speaking of my posting schedule I will be moving my post dates back to Monday; as the majority of traffic from SE’s comes from during the week so having two extra days per week for each post can’t hurt. (Yes I know even on Wednesday they were same number of weekdays but I mean consecutive days).

Lastly if you have a quick look at the sites meta data in google you can see that its not very pretty. So I also will be attempting to resolve this issue and editing the meta data. While yes Google’s weight on meta data is debatable, Yahoo and MSN/Live still take this into account and this is a SEO contest not a Google optimisation contest.

However as an extra challenge to myself I shall not work on neither optimisation nor posts for more than 7 hours per week. :p

So I wish all the other contestants good luck and of course I hope to win! If you have any other strategies and recommendations feel free to comment below and let me know!

Thanks for the shout out Donace. A small correction… It’s not six months but just six weeks. We will wind up by Feb 16 :) Otherwise, this itself will be my 2009 goals…
