How To Use Cheat Engine (FarCry Example)
This is a very basic tutorial written by Usr32 to allow you to train a game. It is kept extremely simple, so no technical knowledge is needed, just common sense.
Required:
- A game =P (Far Cry 2 used in tutorial)
We’re going to turn your amount of diamonds to 666.
Open the process in Cheat Engine.
You can have a easy view of how many diamonds you have by pausing the game, clicking on statistics…
…and there it is.
Minimize the game (Ctrl-Alt-Del, Ctrl-Esc, etc.), enter the amount you saw in statistics (in MY case it was 53, probably not the same for you), and press ‘New Scan’.
It shouldn’t take long to have a enormous number of results.
Now open the game again, and go to a shop to purchase something small…
…and watch your amount of diamonds decrease.
Now enter the price of what you purchased (the value your amount of diamonds was decreased with). Change ‘Scan type’ to ‘Decreased value by…’ and press ‘Next Scan’. And now only a few values are left. Easy as pie.
Note: If there are still more than 6 values left, purchase another thing and repeat above step.
Select all results and move to address list.
Select them all again and right click. Change record -> Value
Enter anything you like here and press Ok.
Done! Have fun shopping and change the value to anything you like.

How to use cheat engine (MechQuest Example (source))
1. Download Cheat Engine 5.3 or higher.
2. Open cheat engine and wait.
3. For this example, we will use a game called MechQuest. Open your internet browser and go to http://www.mechquest.com
4. Create an account on MechQuest if you haven’t already.
5. Log-in and find your current health (the number is next to the red bar)
6. Know that if you just started it should be at 100.
7. Go to Cheat Engine which will now be referred to as C.E. and click on the little blinking computer in the top left corner.* A new box will come up. In the new box you want to click on WINDOWS LIST and then scroll down the many lines of programs until you find mech quest
* Once you find MechQuest select it and press OK.8. Multiply your current health by 8 using your mind, paper or your calculator which can be found in accessories.
* In the value box ( the box that says value above it) type in your product and click first scan.
* Go into a fight and get hit once and multiply your new hp by 8 and type in the new product and click next scan.
* There should be only one value in the box to the left, double click it and it will move to the bottom box.9. Next to the value in the bottom box there is a white check box that says freeze-click it.
10. Double click the numbers to the right of it and change the value to 1,000 and you will have 1,000HP and it will regenerate.PS This tut is incomplete because this guide is just for internet flash game. No it wont work on mmorpg games because they have anti hack systems and if you can use it all it will do is change the numbers on your screen. Cheat engine hacks only works client sided. If you want to hack the amount of money or the level you are cheat engine isnt what you need. One thing to know server sided hacks are illegal. Before you play a game you have this contract that will tell you that third party hacks are illegal. You can be sued for changing data like the amount of money you have. Get ready to be banned if you are using Cheat engine to hack mmorpg games. But get ready to be arrested or sued if you are using server sided hacks.

indeed it’s a very useful program, but you have to be careful…as sometimes it may crash the game…so save before mucking about!
Does this work with all games? Why would you want to cheat? Sometimes I need a cheat because I’m terrible at action games and can’t get through the battles but otherwise I want the satisfaction of completing everything myself.
Hey Kim thanks for dropping by; This in theory can work on all games but ofc there are some games that will notice how it works and just crash.
The extra boost is always helpful :p but I to enjoy finishing the game all on my own with no aides, but sometimes cheats make things a little more interesting.
Would you say it might destory the game because it is modifying the hex files? Im nota terribly techno person, but surely by going into such files it will eventually cause a ‘mess?’
Hey Ayo; no as the changes are done with the data loaded in memory (i.e. RAM) the worst it would do is crash the game making you have to restart it.

Sorry to say its almost impossible to hack Dead Frontier Because of Server sided Cookies that check and change values constantly many have tried and many have failed in hacking this game
how about use cheat engine for travian,,???
I haven’t played Travian however it should be possible in theory. However as it is a browser based game you might find it easier to use ‘tamper data’ plugin.
Travian is browser-based, meaning your information is all completely processed by their servers. For this reason (similar to Runescape), while its possible to edit this information on-screen (so you can take taunting screenshots for your friends, given you have some) it’ll be gone if you log in again. However, the “Speekhack” command could be useful, but I assume you’d encounter the same problem as with simply changing the date on your computer’s clock…
hey … just a quick question … i tried using cheat engine 5.5 on final fantasy 9 > a ROM btw > i was able to find my money and change it to like 99999 ….. but when i looked for things like potions and stuff…. it wouldnt work ….. can u help me ? : O

I can’t say without trying it myself however for a ROM I would suggest looking at gameshark etc and entering the codes in the emulator.
there is no game shark plugin for my emulator …. sadly : ( or i’d be a lvl 100 ultima

This has been a constant problem for me, I find the value of i.e. money, change it to the amount I want, And it shows the change on the game. However, when I go to spend this money it reconizes it as the oringinal value, and not my altered value.
It seems that it only changes the display number, how do I make it change the actual value?
Note: On other seemingly simpler games such as bloons tower defence this program has been exellent
if the game has multiple checks built in; ie if its client / server or just a standalone game with multiple checks it may not be possible to change the cash.
What I would suggest is when searching for the amount to check have a look at the amount of options left at the end and change them all. Though for some games it may not be possible at all.
Almost all online games like runescape and stuff you cant change the money amounts or equipment or basicly n e thing inside those kinds of games …. if we could then anyone who used cheat engine would be rich but sadly thats not the case….. CE is more for small flash games and stuff like that …. there are programs that u can get that add on to CE and help u find in game registry of online games and there for you can hack the game and get n e thing u want ….. *Illegal* <<< hacking in n e online game would be illegal but as for games like bloons ….. bring on the 99999999 cash amounts : D !

, guys always used to beat me in playing game, but after reading your post, i think that this is about to change 
So i fuigured out how to find smaller things like potions in my final fantasy rom and stuff.. when u go to search for smaller things instead of using the pre set “4 bytes” search …. set it too “byte” or 1 byte in order to find things like potions that way it can pick up the smaller numbers in the games * remember this only works in flash games not online games that will block out CE from working > like most people say it looks like your changing the money amount in things like runescape > like money 9999999999> but your not actually changing the game value for money your just storing random numbers that loook like the amount u want but online games will not let u freeze it at 99999999 so it wont work on an online game …. but like i said before … bring on the games like blooons : D !!! …. hope this helped !! : )

some games have an inbuilt protection against tampering; however make sure the game is fully patched and try again.

Hey Maria, unfortunately from what others have said it will not work on farmville due to checks the game makes with the central server which we cant change!
on cheat engine 5.5 i try to create a process file for i so i can money hack but its asking after i name it it says the word parameters and i dont know what that is so maybe if someone could help me and show me how to do it

no … cheat engine doesnt work on any games on face book … becasue facebook has its own kind of security and the changes made on cheat engine to a game dont get saved into the actual facebook data base … there for you may be able to change the numbers …. but it wont make n e difference in the game such as money … start with $500 … and you change it to $9999 with cheat engine … but it will still remain $500 to the facebook database.

well you have to press the flashing button that looks like a computer (top left icon) and then after selecting a process from the list then you have to enter a value and then i think it will work..
and for any one useing (vista) i am not sure if C.E will work for you.
i have tryed it before and they seem to never turn out correctly = (no end value).
if 5.5 dosent work try 5.4 it might work.

Hey Chris; it will only let you do ‘next scan’ if there were results for the first scan. So ensure you have picked the correct .exe and the first scan had some results.
hello i hope u can help me. i used cheat engine on facebook fishworld game…i was trying to change XP after changing coins…well i think i must have entered too many 9’s ….my coins went down to zero and the Xp stayed the same…the XP level is now all messed up..i was able to increase coins one again..is there a way to reverse the XP so i can start over? thank you

can i cheat with this on dead frontier?
As Dead Frontier is an MMO any changes you make probably wont make it over to the server so in effect the ‘cheats’ will not work.
so i wouldnt be able to hack the gamebling den or give myself money? if not is there any way to do this????/

hey tyler no not any other way I know of, as it all requires server side verification.
@ Charbel and Macdam, As I have stated earlier due to the nature of online games most require server side verification, ie it double checks whether the amount is correct or not. So at best using cheat engine on them MAY show only cosmetic changes and very rarely any changes to things like money will happen.

I have not tried it on halo demo but no reason why it shouldnt work in single player mode.

hey Aaron, when I say server side verification, what I mean is the server checks the amount of gold etc etc on its side. As the changes you do only effect the data on your side, and if they do not match with the server the server rejects them. Effectively making the cheats not work.

like donace was saying, you change the way a value(number or amount) looks on online games without changing the value itself. also, speed hack does not always work. you can use it to walk way faster on games like wizard101 but if you use it too much the game could crash on you. i myself have tried to use speed hack to get energy way faster on mafia wars but it just changes the way it LOOKS without changing the value itself. think it as a pie, you can add strawberries on a blueberry pie to make it LOOK like strawberry pie, but inside it’s really a blueberry pie.

I have watched utube video of a person hacking farkle with cheat engine 5.5 and it seems very simple when I do it with my downloaded 5.5 it brings up the numbers with new search but the next set of numbers with next search won’t bring anything up. Is the video of an older version of farkle or am I doing something wrong?
Seems like a good program, similar to CHEAT-O-MATIC (a free software hacker). – As for comments about altering Hexadecimal values; this does not matter – as this information is resident in the computer memory, not on the hard drive containing the game itself – even if you alter hex values in memory the software on the PC should remain the same (unless you are altering a high-score table or something). – If in any doubt through just ZIP-UP any files you may be modifying; then if you do manage to screw something up you can just decompress the original ZIP-FILE.
