Recently I have been building some niche sites and as we know to help them rank you need links!
Again they cannot all be from one source; so no matter how much I like Traffic Android it’s Social Media and RSS links while getting me far may not get me to the coveted no. 1 place.
The next ‘Big Source’ of links is from commenting; may they be do-follow, no follow or with the added bonus of comment luv.
A quick google of the term ‘comment luv blog list’ brings up huge lists of such blogs. The problem being is that comment luv which usually works with your feed is not fully utilized. How you ask? well let me try and explain…
The Feedburner Redirect
A lot of users who utilize comment luv sites are 7/10 times (a downward trend now) likely to have their links like Mitch does below. (sorry for picking on you Mitch but I noticed it a few times which prompted me to write this!).
Why is this bad ? I hear you scream (or mumble).
Well like this the only ‘benefit’ we are getting is advertisment of the link. Being the greedy S.O.B’s we are, we ideally want a DIRECT LINK back to our post that is DO-FOLLOW.
Of course the later is not a necessity but the direct link is what we ideally want to help us build backlinks to our post and therefore giving us diverse links to our post which will help us rank for phrases like Internet Marketing and possibly even pass some PR juice over.
How we get a DIRECT Comment Luv Link
It is very simple! Log into to your Feedburner account and you should see a ‘configure stats’ option under the services heading. Just click on it and UNTICK all the options. The reason for this is simply that for feedburner to track our stats it needs the redirect, and these stats analytics can provide anyway so we should really turn them off!
Further Optimization
Some bloggers out there publish posts so often you wonder if they eat or sleep! Some posts though you may already rank well for and you want to direct the links to some of your older posts.
Now out of the box comment luv doesn’t let you pick that many older posts when you asked to leave a link but registering on their site and ‘claiming’ your site, will give you that option and increase the amount of posts available.
Even then you are limited by your feed,so…
Increase your feed size!
A very simple thing to do; go to your admin panel > settings > reading and just amend the number! Easy as pie (hmm pie).
Now go forth and populate the world with your seed Links!

I didn’t face this problem before. But this is useful for others.
BTW, why are you not using CommentLuv in this blog?
Yea I noticed a few people still had their links redirected; hence my reasoning for the post :p
The reason I haven’t got CommentLuv is basically because I thought Top Commenter was a ‘better deal’ as CL = multiple links from low PR pages which is diluted by number of comments while TC is a nice PR5 link now divided by a set number of people.
I don’t know my maths said that is more beneficial…what’s your opinion?
Awesome tip… I will definitely be logging into feedburner and getting this worked out.
sweet; glad I could help!
I encountered that problem before, but since I never knew until now what was the solution was! damn!
I would really love to hear more of your post to know more. Thanks! and Nice article!
sweet glad I could help
Brillaint tip man; subscribing for some more great hints!
Very useful – just logged into feedburner and made the changes. Did 100 work? I don’t think I would want to make the feed show that many posts – or maybe that doesn’t matter since I only publish 4 posts per week.
No 100 does not work :p I just had that as an example. As I publish an 4-5 a month I have it set on 12 a nice round amount :p
Bloody hell Donace, is a bloggers work never done? Nice pickup mate, something else for me to do.
Nope bloggers have to break news, spread it and get known…all by the 2nd day of the week!
Just so you know, I’ve done all the changes for my blogs. Wasn’t all that hard. Once again, thanks for the tip.
sweet; glad it was of use!
Thanks for this great idea! I will change that in the next updating session.
Well, I learned something today! I was wondering indeed, how come the CommentLUV was linked to my Feedburner RSS, but I didn’t know I could change that, or how to do it!
Great post Donace!
BTW, thanks for dropping by my blog and your comments!
Np Nicolas learnt a few new things when I swung round! and thanks for dropping by and glad I could help!
Donace!
In fact, at some point (in the beginning) I thought I was getting the direct backlinks via commentluv but somehow it got changed. Was it due to feedburner->google migration??? Anyhow, I changed it as you mentioned!
This is really a great tip
Thanks a lot…
NP
Actually the google migration made no difference.
How comment luv works is that is grabs the urls based on your feeds. As most feeds are handled by feedburner and by default the stats options are turned on; for the stats to work they need the links to be from their domain so your feed links always go:
Link ->feedburner -> site
With stats of there is no need for it to be redirected to feedburner so it just goes:
Link -> Site
As most people again you analytics’s you are not missing any vital information.
I had NO idea the two were linked. This was a very interesting read … and I have made the feedburner changes you have suggested. Thanks
I didn’t know that, but thanks for the quick fix
Cheers,
Meg
Wonderful!! I never knew this. Thanks a lot!
Glad it was all useful for you guys!

I’ve actually check a few comments I’ve made that have commentluv and I did see that there were direct links to my latest posts. I’m sure there is a setting within the plugin that allows it. Or maybe it is up to the discretion of the comment moderator?
Tip Top Internet Marketing
I haven’t played with the new version of the plugin so I dont know it may be an option now, however as far as I am aware the redirect is happening at ‘feed central’ as shown above.
I quit using Comment Luv quite some time ago. Took it down because of those reasons you have mentioned here and that Google keeps taking backlinks away from some of my sites, as fast as I can get them.
